cal
Maintaining public trust and confidence in local government, achieving equity and social justice, affirming human dignity, and improving the quality of life for the individual and the community is the major component of ICMA's mission.
A unique aspect of the association is its members' strong commitment to ethics education and enforcement. Since 1924, ICMA has maintained a Code of Ethics-comprising 12 tenets with guidelines-that establishes professional and personal standards for local govern-ment managers. The ICMA Code of Ethics is aggressively enforced by a peer review process that involves investigating complaints and sanctioning violators through public and private censures and expulsion from ICMA membership.
