Description
Eleven centuries ago, two broth-ers, Cyril and Methodius, evolved an alphabet that corresponded to the sounds of the Slavonic langua-ges, and thereby helped to establish a centre of Slavonic culture in Bulgaria. Their work enabled the Bulgarian people to lay the founda-tions of their own culture, on which it had a lasting influence and which attained the highest level of its development somewhat later. It was therefore of great importance in the past and also played a big part in shaping their national con-sciousness and life in modern times.
