The second volume of the History of Soviet Drama Theatre covers the period from 1921 to 1925. The book tells about the activities of the Moscow Art Theatre and its studios, about the work of K. S. Stanislavsky, V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, E. B. Vakhtangov and Mikhail Chekhov during these years, about the directing art of V. E. Meyerhold, Kote Marjanishvili, Les Urbas, about the first experiments in innovative interpretation of classical drama in the Soviet theatre, about the development of realistic traditions in the art of Russian academic theatres and other theatres of the peoples of the USSR.
