OF ALL THE princely states which were merged in the new India in 1947 none has a more individual and fascinating history than Kutch, whose seamen and merchants have sailed for centuries over the oceans of the world. This study of Kutch today and yesterday is timely, since the State has now lost its centurieslong isolation and is making a vital contribution to the new India. In a few years' time much of its history would have been irrecoverable.
