Description

[4:37 pm, 05/11/2025] Kiran: place in Italy in the seventeenth century, and this is the starting-point of the author's extremely useful introduction to this pictor-ial history. From Italy the opera radiated out to the great cultural centres of Europe: to Paris and Vienna, and, towards the end of the century, to Hamburg and London. We see how the composers of each country through which it took its course made their special contributions to the art, enriching and extending it, though in essence it retained its Italian character. Today, after four centuries of development, opera boasts a truly vast repertory, and the process of creation seems to continue as vigorously as ever.
