'Theatre in the Round' is similar to our jatra the plays are enacted in the centre while the audience sits around. The actors and actresses are therefore very close to the audience. No curtain, no scenic design. The play I saw was based on a Greek story by the French writer Racine, titled Phaedra. It is the story of the illicit love of Queen Phaedra and of her life filled with unbearable pain, unfulfilled sexual desire and the agony caused by the guilt of committing an immoral act.
