Description (English)
Set in the village of Vadal near Junagadh on the afternoon of Independence Day, August 15, 1961, "Eklo Jane Re!" is a compelling family drama about generational conflict and fading aristocratic pride. The story unfolds within the decaying ancestral haveli of Bapu Takhtasinhji, the proud patriarch of the Gohil clan.
The play opens with a lighthearted, comedic sequence where the loyal but simple-minded servant, Sukho, humorously struggles to dictate a letter to the irritable family accountant, Munimji. However, the core tension escalates when Bapu’s son, Vajuba, declares his desire to marry Sonal, a girl of his own choice. Bound strictly by royal traditions, family prestige, and conservative values, Bapu refuses to grant his consent, demanding absolute obedience to the family code. This sparks a dramatic clash between the father’s rigid traditional authority and the son's modern quest for personal freedom and individual happiness. The play beautifully explores themes of changing social orders, the burden of lineage, and the painful isolation one feels when standing up for their choices—metaphorically echoing Rabindranath Tagore's philosophy of "Ekla Cholo Re" (Walk Alone).

આ નાટક જૂનાગઢ પાસે આવેલા વડાલ ગામની પાર્શ્વભૂમિ પર આધારિત છે. વાર્તાનો સમય ૧૫મી ઓગસ્ટ, ૧૯૬૧ની બપોરનો છે. નાટકનો પ્રારંભ ગોહિલ ખાનદાનના વડા બાપુ તખ્તસિંહજીની જૂની અને ભવ્ય પરંતુ હવે આર્થિક રીતે જર્જરિત થઈ રહેલી હવેલીના દ્રશ્યથી થાય છે.
શરૂઆતમાં ઘરનો વફાદાર પરંતુ થોડો ભોળો નોકર સુખો (સુખદેવ), હવેલીના મુનીમજી પાસે પોતાની પત્ની ભગીરથી માટે પત્ર લખાવે છે. આ દ્રશ્યમાં સુખાની ભોળપણ ભરી વાતો અને ખીજાતા મુનીમજી વચ્ચે હળવું હાસ્ય નિષ્પન્ન થાય છે. મુખ્ય સંઘર્ષ ત્યારે શરૂ થાય છે જ્યારે બાપુ તખ્તસિંહજીના પુત્ર વજુબા પોતાની પસંદગીની કન્યા સોનલ સાથે લગ્ન કરવાની ઈચ્છા વ્યક્ત કરે છે. બાપુ પોતાના રજવાડી ઠાઠ, પરંપરા અને "ગોહિલ ખાનદાન"ની પ્રતિષ્ઠાને લઈને ખૂબ જ ચુસ્ત છે. તેઓ વજુબાને પોતાની મરજી વિરુદ્ધ લગ્ન કરવાની મનાઈ ફરમાવે છે. આથી પિતાના રૂઢિચુસ્ત વિચારો અને પુત્રની વ્યક્તિગત સ્વતંત્રતા વચ્ચે ઉગ્ર વૈચારિક સંઘર્ષ ઊભો થાય છે. 'એકલો જાને રે' એ જૂની પેઢીના કડક આદર્શો અને નવી પેઢીની આઝાદીની ઝંખના વચ્ચેની સંવેદનશીલ કડવાશ અને પારિવારિક સંબંધોની મથામણ આલેખતું એક ભાવવાહી નાટક છે.
