Description

The TMC Archives Library houses a valuable collection of old gramophone records, preserving an important part of India’s musical and cultural heritage. These records document the history of recorded music and provide a glimpse into the musical traditions, voices, compositions, and performance practices of earlier generations.
The collection includes vintage 78 RPM gramophone records and other historic audio recordings representing different periods and genres of Indian music. The records are significant not only as musical recordings but also as historical documents that reflect the development of the recording industry and the changing cultural landscape of the time.
As part of the TMC Archives, these gramophone records are preserved for research, education, documentation, and cultural reference. They offer students, researchers, musicians, theatre practitioners, and cultural enthusiasts an opportunity to explore the rich history of Indian music and audio recording.
The preservation of such materials is an important part of TMC’s larger archival mission—to collect, conserve, document, and make accessible valuable materials related to theatre, music, folk traditions, performing arts, literature, and cultural history.
