BookEnid Blyton • 1942
Description
Published in 1942 by Enid Blyton, Five on a Treasure Island is the very first book in the legendary Famous Five series. It introduces the iconic team of Julian, Dick, Anne, George, and Timmy the dog, kicking off a generation of classic British boarding-school-break adventures.
The Plot in Short
When siblings Julian, Dick, and Anne are sent to stay with their Aunt Fanny and Uncle Quentin at Kirrin Cottage for the summer holidays, they meet their fierce, fiercely independent cousin George (who insists on being treated like a boy and refuses to be called Georgina). George shares her best secret with them: Kirrin Island, a small, rocky island blocking the bay that belongs entirely to her family.
After a massive storm hits the bay, a century-old shipwreck is lifted from the ocean floor and driven onto the island's rocks. Exploring the wreck, the children discover an old wooden box containing a map of the ancient Kirrin Castle ruins on the island. The map details hidden dungeons and a secret vault containing lost family treasure (gold bars).
The adventure accelerates when a shady collector tries to buy the island and the wreck from George’s impoverished father, Uncle Quentin. Realizing the treasure is real, the children slide into a race against ruthless smugglers to find the hidden gold vaults first, leading to a dangerous trap inside the castle dungeons.
