Description

The Maids is a celebrated play by French playwright Jean Genet. It revolves around two sisters, Claire and Solange, who work as maids in a wealthy woman's house. In their mistress's absence, they enact elaborate role-playing games in which they imitate her. These performances reveal their resentment, desire for power, class conflict and struggles with identity. The play explores themes of illusion, reality, domination and social inequality through an intense and theatrical dramatic structure.
