Dhanji, Pujiya, Nathiya, and the village elders gather over tea to resolve a marital dispute regarding the divorce (Fargati) between Nathiya's son Bhikha and Pujiya's daughter Shanti. After heated arguments over the monetary settlement (around Rs. 250 to Rs. 288) and societal rules, Dhanji and the Panch mediate the agreement to finalize the formal separation. However, Bhikha and Shanti continue to meet secretly after the divorce. Shanti rebels against the tyrannical social customs and forced decisions of the elders. When Bhikha seeks support, Makanji and Gulab sympathize with the young couple, whereas Ruda warns them about the social repercussions and family honor

ધનજી, પુજીયા, નાથીયા અને ગામના પંચના સભ્યો ભેગા મળીને નાથીયાના દીકરા ભીખા અને પુજીયાની દીકરી શાંતીના સંબંધો તથા ફારગતી (છૂટાછેડા) અંગે ચા પીતા-પીતા ગંભીર ચર્ચા કરે છે. લેવડ-દેવડની રકમ (રૂ. ૨૫૦ થી ૨૮૮) અને નાતના નિયમો અંગે તીવ્ર બોલાચાલી થયા બાદ ધનજી અને પંચની મધ્યસ્થતાથી ફારગતીનું કાગળ પૂર્ણ કરવામાં આવે છે. જોકે, ફારગતી પછી પણ ભીખા અને શાંતી છાનામાના મળે છે. શાંતી પિતા અને પંચના નિર્ણયો તથા નાત-સમાજના જુલમ સામે વિરોધ વ્યક્ત કરે છે. ભીખા આ બાબતે રુડાંડાડી અને મકનજી પાસે મદદ માગે છે, જ્યાં મકનજી અને ગુલાબ યુવાનોના નિર્ણયને ટેકો આપે છે જ્યારે રુડાંડાડી સમાજ અને પિતાઓની આબરૂ અંગે ચેતવણી આપે છે
